Skype Hardware Certification Test Service

 

 

    

 

PAL is an independent test house partnering with Skype to provide “Skype Hardware Certification”
test services. We provide Audio and Video tests based on Skype’ specifications. If your product
meets the Skype requirements, your product will get the following benefits:
 
 use of the Skype logo or plugged Skype logo on your packaging and in your marketing material
 product listing in the Skype Shop
 rigorous testing to help your product deliver the quality expected by Skype users

 

Which products can we test? 
 
We have the right to test two device categories:
 
         Accessories
   Products that directly interact with the public Skype clients for Windows.
 
 SkypeKit related products Note
            A device, or an accessory connected to a device, which incorporates or embeds SkypeKit.
            Note: PAL only supports “required level” testing for SkypeKit related products.

 Preparation

   First, ensure that your product is ready for testing - only finished products with final form factor,
   branding and necessary documentation (packaging artwork, manual, quick start guide etc.)
   can be accepted.
 
   If your product is:

   1) An accessory for Windows PC then please ensure that you are aware of the paperwork that Skype

       requires you to submit.

 
   2) A SkypeKit product or accessory for a product running SkypeKit then please ensure that the
       complete solution is meeting the SkypeKit related legal requirements as specified in SkypeKit
       License Agreement, SkypeKit Distribution Terms and Marketing Guidelines.
  
 Step 1
   Submit a test request:
 

   * IF you already have a valid account to log Skype portal then please create the

      Case’ directly in Skype Portal. 

 

   * Otherwise please fill the Test Submission Form and the account will be provided to you.

      Skype will verify that the submission is complete and will provide access to the email address
      you specified in the form. (If more than one person needs the automated notifications from
      Skype Portal then please consider making a group e-mail alias for this purpose).
 
 Step 2
   Skype will verify that the necessary information is provided and assign the ‘Case’ to PAL
   (unless the specific request is not in PAL’s scope).
 
 Step 3
   If your ‘Case’ is assigned to PAL, our sales representative will send a communication letter to you.
   The letter will quote the test fee, check your preferred test date and confirm the contact, invoicing,
   and sample delivery information.
 
 Step 4
   After receiving your confirmation, PAL will issue you with an invoice. Please pay the test fee before
   the date on which you would prefer to test.
 
 Step 5
   PAL will finalize your test date in Skype Portal after confirmation of your payment. You will also receive
   an automatic confirmation from Skype Portal.
 
 Step 6
   PAL will conduct your test case on the scheduled test date.
 
 Step 7
   Once the tests are completed, PAL will upload the test reports to Skype Portal. A report should be
   available within the “lead time” (refer to Table 1) after the scheduled test date. If any single test
   fails then the overall result of the test round is marked as a ‘FAIL’. Otherwise the resolution field
   is marked ‘PASS’. The system will automatically send a confirmation note to you and Skype
   simultaneously. You can use the URL on the mail to access your test reports/data. 
 
   *If the resolution is a failure, you need to do some troubleshooting to improve the performance.
    Should you decide to resubmit then please contact PAL via Skype Portal or email.
 
   *If the resolution is a pass, then the product is assigned back to Skype who will close the case -
    checking that all paperwork is in order, listing device as Certified, etc. At this point, you will
    have the right to use the “Skype” logo or “plugged Skype” logo on your product for marketing
    purpose. Skype will ask you to ship one production sample of the product to the Skype Office
    in Tallinn. The details will be provided in Skype Portal.
 
 
Test Fee
 
 Accessories
    A test costs USD 2,000.
 
 SkypeKit related products
    We charge a USD 4,000 fee for each certification test, that is, for each submitted Test Request.
    Note: The prices are based on per SKU/DUT/Test round/Configuration
 
 
How to Pay
 
Please pay the test fee prior to your preferred test date (T/T in advance), PAL will provide an invoice
to you after receiving your confirmation. We accept only USD. The account information is as follows:

To be noted that all shipping costs should be covered by your side.
 
 
Lead time for testing and reporting
 
Please refer to the below table to estimate the lead time (by business days). The table is based on
per SKU/test round/test submission/configuration. To be noted that the lead time is counted from
"Scheduled Test Date” instead of “Case Assigned Date”.

Example:

1.      For accessories, if your device needs to conduct video and UX, the lead time will be

      2+0.5+1= 3.5 business days. If your device has two SKUs, the total lead time will be

      3.5x2=7 business days.

2.      For SkypeKit products, if your device needs to conduct audio, video, and UX, the lead time will be
      3+3+0.5+1=7.5 business days.
